” You seem stressed ” Says the researcher with whom I have an appointment as soon as I enter her office.
” Stressed, me? Yes dear, and you are the main cause” I want to answer. “I’ve been waiting for 45 minutes; I have not eaten yet and I have an article to write before 6 P.M…. You’re right —I am stressed!” Of course, I simply replied with a
beautiful smile: “No, not at all. I’m good. Just a little out of breath.” Ahem. Very good Dominique. Such a great answer! Breathe and stay calm. Everything’s gonna be alright… as Bob Marley’s song says.
Fortunately, the interview went well. The lady is not punctual, but her research is captivating. At least, my text will be interesting to read. I feel better already. But no question of settling right away behind the computer. First, I have to walk a little, then eat something.
The Notre-Dames-des-Neiges cemetery in Montreal is right next to my office. On my way, I buy a salad and hop to the cemetery. I often come here to relax at lunch time. A favorite destination for birdwatchers, this site contains a great variety of monuments (mausoleums, sandstone urns…) as well as several trees and plants. Sometimes, I also see red foxes. No Zombie.

See how beautiful this cemetery is. If you forget the decomposing bodies underground, it’s like being in a garden.

When I have too much on my shoulders, I have three tricks to help me face the music.
Walking helps expend energy.
Breathe and sing loudly
I take deep breaths and the effect is magical. Breathing deeply opens the diaphragm and stops the stress response.
Remember the madeleine cakes of Marcel Proust? When melting in his mouth it reminded him of his childhood. In my case, this phenomena happens with essential oils. Plus, they help relax the body and the mind. Several studies have shown that smell is linked to emotional reactions. It’s an easy way to help reduce the perception of stress and anxiety in the brain. I’m a big fan of the room sprays.
I love Rock n’ Roll / So put another dime in the jukebox, baby / I love Rock n’ Roll / So come an’ take your time an’ dance with me.
I sing at the top of my lungs … Fortunately, there is no one —because I sing really badly. But it’s not the dead who will tell me to shut up, right?
