If you haven’t fallen back in love with animal prints, NOW is the time. This season, leopard, tiger, snakeskin and zebra patterns are one of top Autumn/Winter Fashion Trends (again). But for 2018 the mix and match are bolder than ever. It’s “De Bon Goût” (Translation: stylish) to wear the animal spots and stripes with bold colours, head-to-toe and even combine them together. Here’s everything you need to know to help you style these alluring prints without anyone raising an eyebrow.

From classic leopard coats, snakeskin booties, tiger dresses and zebra-striped pants, there are many ways you can rock animal prints. I have spotted (pun intended) lots of different colours too.

If you only buy one piece this season, the classic topper is a good investment that you’ll want to wear through fall and winter.

Top it off with a statement coat

There’s a reason the leopard print is timeless. It’s easy to work into your wardrobe. Wear your animal print coat with a striped or graphic tee for a retro-sporty vibes (see the outfit here). You can also approach this look by pairing it with a bright colour. Here, I have combined two of Fall’s top trends in one outfit – tangerine crush and leopard.
For an instant chic look, I also like to pair my leopard coat with a rich red turtleneck.

Step further into the jungle 

Ever since I saw Richard Quinn’s coat the maximalist in me has been dreaming of wild things (I mean, more than usual).

  • Pair your wild-animal-print with solid colours to really let it stands out. This will also keep your look from feeling too busy.
Remember: What used to be consider a faux-pas is now a trendy thing amongst the fashion set. Your jungle and Sahara patterns act nowadays as neutrals in your wardrobe. They do mix well with floral prints and stripes and even with other animal patterns. Yes, I know, It’s not for everyone. But if Anna Wintour does it then It must be OK, right?

  • An easy way to pull it off is to distribute your prints, i.e. one on the top and one on the bottom.
  • Use neutral colours to calm things down and balance the outfit.
  • Put a fresh spin on your animal prints by combining your statement piece with a crisp white blouse or booties. Pastel hues such as blue, pink, yellow and lilac also mix well with these prints. Try it!

If print-on-print is just too much for you, just add an accent to your outfit for an edgy yet sophisticated effect. Think leopard ankle boots, faux-snakeskin bag, calf-hair pumps… These are perfect for those of you who prefer a more subtle look.

Tiger pattern is THE new trendy animal print for Fall and Winter as evidenced by the street looks during Fashion Weeks in New York, London, Milan and Paris. This pattern reminds me of Garfield and instantly triggers the playful side of me. I really like the Twin-Set’s dress below.

But between tiger and zebra my heart goes for the Black & White print. I particularly like it on dresses and skirts. There’s something deliciously cool about a feminine piece with zebra stripes… That can’t never be out of line.

  2. Oh My Goodness this post has my head spinning! So much inspiration and great advice. Dominique, I love the leopard statement coat paired with the warm red top & the calf hair heels paired with the cool blue purse. As a “Bold Minimalist,”(I think I just made that up..lol😄) the solid and animal print combo really speaks to my spirit and inspires me. I’d love to add a statement coat like that to my wardrobe once I start back purchasing fabrics and clothing again. In the meantime, I’ve added a pair of snake print heels and calf hair leopard print heels to my wardrobe this season. I love both pair and look forward to wearing them now and in the seasons to come.❤

  3. Nice post dear, as I’m not one that cares for animal print clothing the bags are nice looking and would be something I would carry and maybe a pair of snake skin shoes, l like the red blouse and leather skirt ( you look great dear ).

If you want to differ from the classical colours that normally go well with leopard prints, then go for army green or mint green, which really work beautifully with animal prints.   21. Great information. I love leopard print, wearing it often with denim blue, olive, burgundy. Have never put it with red, but why not? My next animal to capture is zebra. I’m drawn to it, it’s kind of like stripes, but with more artsy attitude.
